[ English ]

There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is banned. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, highlights 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
