Cambodia Casinos
There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, highlights 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that features many comforts accompanying the gambling den, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
